This vessel began its life as my friend’s mother’s cotton ball jar, which she used for decades. When she was done with it, I was elated to give it it’s new life.
It is adorned with the most beautiful green-marbled handmade paper. The neck is circled with pods I gathered at a friends home in California. (They are still trying to identify their tree for me!)
Some yucca leaves (which my husband brought home from a birdwatching tour as I was creating this vessel) sits with a pinecone and some amazing moss/lichen.
The base is encircled with juniper berries which I gathered in my yard and small century pods that I gathered in the Sonoran desert. The lid has the same pods with gorgeous locally-gathered lichen.
It is 12 inches high, about 9 inches wide at it’s widest and has a 3 1/2 inch mouth opening. A truly stunning vessel which would be an amazing urn, gratitude jar or art.
The turkey feather brings amazing medicine to this vessel. Turkey is actually thought to be the Give-Away Eagle or South Eagle of many native peoples. The philosophy of give-away was practiced by many tribes. Simply stated, it is the deep and abiding recognition of the sacrifices of both self and others. People in modern-day society, who have many times more than they need, could use to embrace Turkey’s medicine.
Harmony Rose lives in the mountains, near Santa Fe, New Mexico. This Grandmother of six loves to gather sacred pieces of the earth and highlight them in her creations. Much of Harmony’s art is made from recycled pieces which, over time, will disintegrate and go right back into the earth.
